C.S. Lewis said, "Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again." As a girl, especially as a girl who was raised on Disney and worked for Disney, I know all too well about fairy tales. Damsels in distress, far away places, daring sword fights, princes in disguise, all of that and more. And as a Christian, one of the most amazing fairy tales is that Jesus gave his own life so that those who believe in him can have everlasting life. So I have been asking the question for years when will my fairy tale begin? When is someone else (in addition to the Lord) going to rescue and fight for me?
Well, yesterday that happened. After three weeks of absolute hell, I was rescued. I had two amazing people fight for me, well, one was fighting for me all along, and it worked out better than I could have ever imagined. And for the record, there was no sleeping curse or wicked witch after me, but instead, a moral conflict.
But you see, there's a difference with my plot line than those classic Disney tales. None of that would have happened if I didn't decide that I was worth fighting for. During these few weeks, I have been assuming that people were fighting for me. But when the outcomes were not as I was told they were going to be, I started to doubt if I was worth it anymore. If nothing was working out in my favor, was I worth a fight, or would I just get shoved to the side? So, five hours before my reputation was going to possibly go down the drain, I decided that yes, I AM worth fighting for. I officially felt ready to fight for myself, with a lot of help of course. I had to stop acting like damsel in distress just sitting around waiting for someone to fight. I needed to make the decision that I was worth it before anyone would go and fight for me. Was it going to be easy? I had no clue at the time. But all I knew was that it was time to stand up for myself once and for all.
Once and for all we won't carry no banners that don't spell freedom!
Finally we's raising the stakes
This time whatever it takes!

And as it turns out, I was, and we won without even having to put up an actual fight. So what is the moral of this story, as all fairy tales have? No one is going to be willing to fight for you if you don't want them to or if you don't want to fight for yourself. Being weak will get you nowhere. If you want to change your story, you need to take hold of that pen and do so. You don't have to do it by yourself, but you have initiate the change. And no, this wasn't a typical fairy tale, by any means. But it is the "happily ever after" to one crazy beginning of a school year. So in my book (no pun intended) this is a fairy tale. And now almost everything is back to where it should be. So let this be my thank you to everyone who has truly been by my side these past three weeks. I am forever grateful for you.
Just because you find that life's not fair it
Doesn't mean that you just have to grin and bear it
If you always take it on the chin and wear it
Nothing will change.
Even if you're little, you can do a lot, you
Mustn't let a little thing like, 'little' stop you
If you sit around and let them get on top, you
Might as well be saying
You think that it's okay
And that's not right!
